Keep the NEP, forget NEM, says congress panellist

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Eco-nomic Model is ineffective in strengthening Bumiputra economic participation, said a panellist of a bumiputra economic congress.

Datuk Prof Ramlah Adam, a lecturer from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM), and fellow panellists had urged the Government to continue with affirmative action under the New Economic Policy (NEP) to safeguard the interest of the bumiputras.

“Why challenge the NEP which was working so well?” she said at the congress organised by the Malay Consultative Council here yesterday.

The congress was attended by 1,125 participants from 126 Malay non-governmental organisations including Perkasa. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had unveiled the NEM in March to liberalise the economy. Among other things, NEM aims to eradicate poverty and give equal opportunities to all Malaysians, regardless of race.

Another panellist, Datuk Akbar Ali, a former executive director of the Malacca Economic Action Plan Council, said it was difficult for Bumiputras to participate in private sector projects. He questioned why the private sector had demanded government procurement projects which were reserved for the bumiputras.

The congress also passed an emergency resolution calling for the board of Sime Darby Bhd to resign over the RM1.3bil losses the group had incurred.

It said it was inappropriate to put the blame solely on the group president and chief executive who was forced to take leave of absence in connection with cost overruns from projects in Qatar and the Bakun hydro-electric dam.

“We urge the whole board including the chairman and senior executives to resign. Otherwise, the Government should remove them,” it said.

My Guide to SEO and Success

This is a guide I worked out myself from what I have observed and learned in the field of SEO.

Keyword Research

  • Work out the best keywords to target based on relevance and KEI for each webpage on the site (or as many as possible).
  • Limit the KWs to target of each page to 1 or 2 one phrase.
  • To keep track of which keywords the pages has to target put them in the Meta KW tag, a very good tag to keep track of this, hehe.

On-Page Optimization

  • Domain name: Get the most important KW in the domain name. Don’t make it look spammy, if the visitor feels it spammy, Google for sure also thinks so.
  • Title: Try to make variations of the KW. Don’t repeat the same word more than 2 times and not after each other. Keep company name in the end of the title if branding is needed.
  • Internal navigation: Each web page HAS to be reachable within two clicks (if not a site based on a db). If not with navigation structure then with a sitemap. Isolate if any webpages are more important than others and if so, get more links to it. For example if the homepage is very important make a link to it from each page – both for the visitors and for the SEs. Avoid navigation with flash or some complex js – but if you HAVE to keep it then have a normal HTML navigation on the bottom of the page.
  • Use H1 and H2 tags with KWs in them and define them in the CSS file. Use the headings in a sensible and logical way to avoid possible filters.
  • Meta desc: KW in the beginning, action for the visitor in the end.
  • KW rich text starts early in the source: Use CSS-P for this and get the CSS and JS in external files.
  • Page contains a lot of text: You should strive for to keep your web pages at least 250 words each.
  • Use the Title attribute in the anchor tags.
  • Use ALT description tags on the images.
  • Use the strong tag if possible to emphasize KWs.
  • Spread out the KWs in the body text. Avoid a too high density, if it feels a bit spammy, reduce it. You write for the visitors not the SEs.
  • In case you have any tables use the summary attribute.
  • Use XHTML and put all design in the external CSS file to reduce the file sizes and make it “easier” for the spiders to see the content.
  • Avoid frames and flash based site.
  • Avoid poison words in the title, headings, file name and other important places.
  • Use static URLs. If you use a db get it mod_rewritten.
  • Use dashes in the URLs. Confirmed by my own SEO test as well as on the Google blog by GG as well as Matt Cutts.
  • Keep your files under 100K. (spiders may disregard additional)
  • If needed break up words in the source so they form keywords by using “word-spacing:-4px” with CSS.
  • Have your content change/updated on a regular basis so the spiders will come more often. If this is not done manually you can rotate/randomize text with PHP. This maybe also will rank you higher.
  • Avoid ANY kind of bad hat SEO or anything could mistakenly be seen as bad hat. This includes doorways, non-301 redirects, hidden texts or links, spamming, mirror domains, cloaking etc.
  • Validate the code by W3C so you make it easier for the SE spiders.
  • Never link to any site that could be seen as a bad site.
  • Use 301 to get the PR on one version of the domain name (confirmed by GG on WMW and by Matt Cutts on his blog)
  • If you have any link to an unimportant page let say copyright terms on each page use the rel=nofollow so that you distribute the PR more to your other pages than that one.

Off-Page Optimization

  • Get links from high PR pages to your site. Try to have them related in the same theme. Avoid excessive reciprocal linking, it could be penalized – three way linking is better.
  • Avoid temporary links to your site, the older they are the better.
  • Get your KWs in the anchor text of the links to your site.
  • Avoid excessive crosslinking.
  • Whenever you feel that “now I have enough links”, set a new goal to double them.
  • Good ways to get links: Write and submit high quality articles to article sites, write something unique and useful, get into niche directories (also general once are ok.) But avoid the FFA type in which there is no approval.
  • Make a Google sitemap and submit it.
  • Get a reliable host that has more than 99% uptime, is fast and is not hosting bad sites (you don’t want to be in a bad neighbourhood.)
  • Submit your site to SEs and directories ONLY manually.

Factors in the Long Run

  • Content is not King. UNIQUE content is King. Huge difference. Write something valuable that has not been written before and you will see what I mean.
  • Add more unique content on a regular basis. Try to write at least an article or web page with text per week.
  • Build your web site big. One big good one is much better than 10 small not-so-good ones.
  • Have good statistics and analyze from where you get your visitors, their paths on your site and finetune it.
  • Observe: Look and observe all the time. Check the SERPs, check the stats, check this, check that and learn. If something goes good reinforce it, if something was not good remedy it.

Personal Recommendations

  • If you have a site about information try to specialize it in a certain niche.
  • Make a SEO friendly directory in your niche of speciality. You will get a huge benefit of this. You can ask or make them sign up for your newsletter when submitting their site. When you send your newsletter make it valuable information and you won’t get any unsubscribers.
  • Do your research before starting a new site. Look at which sites are already existing, what is needed and wanted and then make one that is the best in a certain field. Like if you find there is 20 similar sites like the one you want to make, figure out how you can make it the best of them.
  • If you offer services try to always give more than what is expected and you will build up a good reputation.
  • Find forums in your special field and provide useful information and help people by answering their questions etc. Have your site in the signature and you will see that it will be more known.
  • In the bodytext concentrate on the visitor and not on yourself.
  • If you have a site that sells things or services, don’t speak about money the first thing but how you can help the visitor. In addition add pages to the site with valuable information that will drive visitors to the site that maybe is not interested in your services but maybe in some month will be.
  • The big search engines have million of variables in their algo, don’t try to cheat it. Spend the time writing instead.
  • Study the SEO field by reading articles and forums to learn more each day and catch the algo changes and follow up with finetuning your site.

Best Personal Advice

  • Don’t make a web site to make money, make a web site to the benefit and help to your visitors and you will see that the money will come.

Malaysians unemployed?

Five reasons why graduates are unemployed–I can think 100000000 reasons why local Msians are unemployed!!!READ BODOHLAND.COM AND YOU WILL BE EDUCATED.

1: they must be malay graduate?

2: tidak apa attitude

3:oh never mind-just show your Bumiputra malay card and you can get hired by the UMNO

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/2/27/nation/20100227211559&sec=nation

KUALA TERENGGANU: Lack of industrial training and poor English are among five factors why graduates are unemployed, according to a study conducted by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM).

Other factors are low problem-solving skills, job-hopping and lack of self-confidence, said Higher Education Ministry student development and affairs director Prof Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan.

He said as graduates were bogged down with their poor communication skills in English, they should improve their command of the language.

“They have themselves to blame if they fail to convince employers on their potential,” he said when closing a two-day graduate etiquette programme at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu here Saturday.

He said graduates should also avoid being choosy about jobs and shrug off bad attitude of preferring to work in ones’ hometown. – Bernama

Toyota Altis for RM46,000 (and not RM112,000.00)

Honda Jazz for RM36,000.00 (and not RM108,000)

Read the following forwarded article…….by Syed Akbar Ali.
And know the actual prices of your dream car.

Car Prices In Malaysia
Digest this article, after that, you may need to vomit. What is the Malaysian Govt doing all these while. Ripping off our Rakyat for the last 30 yrs with APs designed to benefit a few well connected Bumis, the UMNO/BN have robbed millions of citizens in this fiasco, under the pretext of protecting our local industry. The Govt have forgotten we Malays are the largest customers in the country. What is the NEP policy doing ?? Ripping off the Malays (which forms 65% of the consumer base) to benefit a few UMNO politicians !!!

BMW 535i sells for RM178,000 in the US

In the United States of America (a developed country which we are also aspiring to become by the year 2020) a 2009 model BMW 535i Sedan is selling for about USD50,367.00. This is only RM178,000 – about the price of a Toyota Camry 2..4L here in Malaysia . The same BMW sells in Malaysia for about RM450,000.

BMW 328i sells for RM155,000 in the US

The 2009 model BMW 328i 2 door Convertible sells for USD44,014 or RM155,369.00 in the US . In Malaysia the same car sells for over
RM460,000. This is an untenable situation.

Audi A4 2.0T Cabriolet Convertible sells for RM142,000 in the US

The 2009 model Audi A4 2 Door 2.0T Cabriolet Convertible sells in the US for USD40,328.00 or RM142,357. In Malaysia the same car would sell for about RM265,000.

VW GTI 2.0T sells for RM85,000 in the US

In the US the 2009 model Volkswagen GTI 2.0T sells for USD 24,039 or RM85,000 only. In China the same car will cost around RM60,000. Over here the same VW car sells for about RM200,000.

And the 2010 model Toyota Camry 2.4L sells in the US for USD 19,659.00 or RM69,396 In Malaysia the 2008 Toyota Camry 2.4L sells for RM170,000. Toyota Camry 2.4L, 2010 model. RM69,000 in the US

Car prices in Malaysia are about three times higher than the prices in the United States . We are a developing nation. Our land and labour costs are so much cheaper than the US . Why are our cars so expensive? It does not make any sense. Tak masuk akal.

Then here are some car prices from our neighbour Indonesia .
The Toyota Altis sells in Indonesia for about RM46,000. The same car sells here for around RM 112,000. Again we are three times more expensive than Indonesia

The Honda Jazz sells here for RM108,000.. In Indonesia the Jazz sells for RM 36,000. Three times more expensive.

We are paying ridiculously high prices (and actually impoverishing the Malays – who are the largest buyers of cars in Malaysia ) to support an out of date, out of touch with reality motor car policy.

We are paying the highest car prices in the world to support the Proton and other locally made cars as well as support a mind boggling AP policy which only benefits a relatively few rich Malays. A disproportionately large number of Malays and other Malaysians are being impoverished to subsidise the wealth of a few inefficient rich.

26 million Malaysians have to pay three times more for their cars just to support Proton and 120,000 people who are directly and indirectly involved in the motor sector in Malaysia and the AP holders. That is a ratio of 216:1.

This ratio of 216:1 is too skewed. 26.0 million happier people can contribute many more votes than 120,000 members of an inefficient motor industry.. 26 million unhappy people can change a Government. (The maths is not really difficult here)

And this outdated policy is impoverishing the Malays more than anyone else.

Here is some news from our DPM Tan Sri Muhyudin Yassin about our car policy. This is truncated:

Muhyiddin assures govt support for automotive parts and component sector

1. KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 – The deputy prime minister said special focus will be given to “facilitate and encourage” the development of the automotive parts and component sector despite the current global and regional economic downturn.

2. “Under the CEPT and Asean Trade in Goods Agreements, Malaysia has agreed to eliminate import duties on all products in the Normal Track on January 1, 2010. This includes motor vehicles, auto parts and components,” he said.

3. He pointed out that the motor vehicle sub sector in Malaysia will not be directly impacted because of its heavy dependence on the domestic market.

4. “The Malaysian government recognises the contribution of the domestic automotive industry towards the development of the country.”

Para 2 sounds promising but then Para 3 and 4 basically says that the Malaysian motor car industry will continue to be protected. This means we will continue paying the highest car prices in the world for automobiles.

This is like giving the car buyer an RM1000 pay rise without incurring any extra costs for the taxpayer, the Government or the economy. It will greatly reduce the cost of living in Malaysia and spur greater economic growth too.

In absolute numbers, the Malays are suffering the most because they are the most in number among the fixed income people who also buy cars.

Some folks said the other day that Proton has 150 major component suppliers, dealers, distributors and about 500 other parts suppliers too. Of the 150 major component suppliers, about 15 of them are listed companies. In total they employ about 120,000 people. The Proton supply chain is a mix of bumiputras and non bumiputras. But here is a sad fact : none of them are operating at their level best efficiency.

Our motor car policy is forcing Malaysians to subsidise Proton so that Proton can sustain major inefficiencies in the Malaysian economy.. This is not a good thing at all.

We have to unwind this situation. Set a target of 18 months from now to unwind all protection for our motor industry. Remove the impoverishing AP policy also in 18 months. Let Malaysian car prices reflect world market prices for the same makes of cars.

If a BMW 535 sells for RM178,000 in America , it should sell for a little less here in Malaysia (our rentals and salaries are cheaper). Fw: Car Prices In Malaysia

The Ministers continue making pronouncements about the car industry as though nothing has happened. I hope everyone will please wake up. The Government has a real chance of getting thrown out of office in about three years. The people will not accept inept answers anymore.

The ridiculous car prices in Malaysia is an issue that is just beginning to get more attention and publicity. It is going to become a really big issue in the near future. Be forewarned.

Million-dollar dream chasers

PETALING JAYA: Ever since he was 19, Shahabudeen Jalil has always dreamt of becoming a millionaire. To achieve his goal, he has been dabbling in a business importing products from China for seven years now.

He also has his own business consultancy which trains entrepreneurs on the methods of sourcing for products from China.

Now 27, Shahabudeen conducts lectures on the subject all over the country and makes trips to China at least twice a month with his clients.

He has been in the consultancy business for two years and has trained over 800 clients.

For Shahabudeen, being a millionaire would mean financial freedom and the opportunity to improve his mental and spiritual self.
Dreaming big: Shahabudeen is one of many youths who are chasing the dream of becoming a millionaire.

It will also give him the opportunity to travel the world.

“I believe that to be successful, you should do something that you like,” he said.

He had taken up an engineering course but found it not to his liking. After completing his A-levels, he worked as a car salesman for a year.

He then started the business importing products from China.

He believes that working for someone would limit the income he could receive.

“In business, there is no limit to what you can earn although there are risks. You will also have to be patient,” he said.

But he is realistic about his chances of being a millionaire. “If someone tells you that you can get rich in two months, they are probably bluffing,” he said.

Shahabudeen, who is confident of achieving his goal by the age of 30, is just one of many youths who have the ambition of becoming a millionaire.
